At the recent Destin Area Chamber of Commerce awards banquet, Amy Perry was presented with the James D. Neilson, Sr. Chairman's Award for Volunteer Service by outgoing Chamber Board of Directors Chairman, Mike Freeman. Amy also continues on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, as Treasurer (2012). Amy not only serves on the Board, but she also hosts the Destin Business Forum, the Chamber's monthly TV show.

David B. Pleat, Senior Partner, was recently invited by State Senate President-Elect, Don Gaetz, to provide testimony before the Senate Committee on Reapportionment.  The Committee is charged with establishing new districts for House, Senate and Congress based on recent Constitutional Amendments 5 and 6.  Mr. Pleat was able to share his experiences as the Democratic Candidate for House of Representatives (District 7) and the challenges covering a District covering parts of nine counties and two time zones.  Mr. Pleat urged the Committee to establish common sense Districts which concentrate on natural geographic boundaries to simplify Districts.  His comments specifically urged that the panhandle coastal communities make up Districts and the Northern parts of the panhandle Counties have their own Districts. Read More »

Amy A. Perry, Senior Partner/Mediator/Arbitrator, was selected into the 1st Special Operations Wing Honorary Commanders Program at Hurlburt Air Force Base. 

The Honorary Commanders Program is a year-long program designed to build and maintain solid, mutually beneficial relationships between the local communities and Hurlburt Field. The program allows select local civic leaders frequent opportunities to visit Hurlburt Field and learn about the mission, participate in base functions and express their views on issues of mutual concern. They will use this knowledge to help the U.S. Air Force force foster understanding and support within the local community.  Read More »

David Pleat has been named to the First Circuit Bench/Bar Professionalism Committee by the Honorable Patricia Grinsted, Okaloosa County Judge. 

The committee acts as liaison between the Bar and the judiciary; plans, implements and coordinates programs for better understanding and to improve relations between the Bench and the Bar; conducts the annual Joint Bench/Bar Conference with the judiciary and the local and/or state Bar.

J. Jerome Miller has been named as General Counsel to the Walton County Code Enforcement Board.

David B. Pleat, Senior Partner of the Firm, recently obtained a $100,000 verdict in a trial before the Circuit Court of Okaloosa County.  The $100,000 represented the maximum amount of damages requested.  The presiding Judge also ordered that the opposing party pay Mr. Pleat's client's attorneys' fees and costs.  The case involved a dispute over a real estate contract and Mr. Pleat's client prevailed on its Complaint and defending against the defendant's Counter Complaint.

Leisure carrier Vision Airlines says it will operate a hub out of the Northwest Florida Regional Airport, raising the question of whether the Destin/Fort Walton Beach airport can succeed where airports serving places like Pittsburgh, Columbus (Ohio) and Raleigh/Durham could not.

Vision already flies to Destin/Fort Walton Beach from about two dozen destinations, but currently does not offer connections. That will change on June 1, a move Vision says will add "more than 100 new options for flights."
